Reflecting on the Balint conference held over the weekend at the Radisson Blu hotel in Co. Sligo.
The Sligo Balint Symposium is held every two years. The 2019 event was co jointly organized with Dr Trish Noonan GP. The event is the only continual Balint conference in the Republic of Ireland. A sold out event which ran over 3 days.
The aim of Balint is a group process of exploration and for the medical participants to transform uncertainty and difficulty in the doctor-patient relationship into a greater understanding and meaning that nurtures a more therapeutic alliance between clinician and patient.
The Sligo conference provided an opportunity for multi disciplinary professionals to train in and experience the method.
This years Symposium particularly focused on support, supervision and the process of setting up and maintaining a group.
